About Ottawa

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada’s national capital, lies on the southern banks of the Ottawa river, the major waterway which constitutes the boundary between the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Ottawa is the fourth largest municipality in Canada, and the second largest in Ontario, with a total regional population of a little over 800,000 (in 2006). Ottawa is known for, of course, the Parliament Buildings, but also for being the home of the Rideau Canal, one of the longest outdoor skating rinks maintained in the world. (Alas, the canal will not be open for skating in September when we have the conference!)
