Membership in GDUC

Membership in Guide Dog Users of Canada provides you access to a nationwide network of guide dog handlers, a subscription to the Two by Four, GDUC’s quarterly newsletter, and the potential to make a difference!

GDUC is a membership-driven organization, and it is through the work of our members that we accomplish our goals and objectives. If you are a current or past guide dog user, we need you and your input to make Guide Dog Users of Canada a strong and effective force for improving the lives of guide dog handlers across Canada.

Types of members in GDUC

There are three types of members in GDUC: Photo from 2007 AGM: GDUC annual general meetings attract members from all ages and walks of life. Why not become one of them?

  1. Active members are blind or deaf-blind current and former guide dog handlers;
  2. Associate members are those concerned with the welfare of guide dog handlers and guide dogs, and who support the objectives of GDUC; and,
  3. Honourary members are individuals who have rendered extraordinary service to persons using guide dogs, and who have been appointed as honourary members by the Board of Directors.

A $5.00 annual membership fee applies to all Active and Associate members. You may purchase an Active Life or Associate Life membership for $50.00 if you have been a member in good standing for at least 1 year.

Which membership type applies to me?

You may become an Active member if:

  • you are currently working with a trained guide dog; or,
  • you have previously worked with a trained guide dog, but do not currently have a guide dog.

You may become an Associate member if:

  • you are supportive of the objectives of Guide Dog Users of Canada and wish to make that support known; and,
  • you are someone who is not blind or partially sighted; or,
  • you are someone who is blind or partially sighted but have never had a guide dog.
